Research Methods

My aim is to combine four research methods in which generative research and competitor analysis will provide an overall understanding and help discover any gaps in the market.

Interviews and user surveys will be effective at gathering qualitative and quantitative information that will help create a user persona and validate assumptions on the topic of nutrition and sustainability

1. Generative Research

My generative research showed that the main challenges to carry a healthy living come from dietary problems reflected as bad habits, poverty leading to a lack of access to healthy food, as well as the environmental impact that our dietary choices and food distribution have on the environment.

Prototyping and User Testing

Cartoon taking notes

Testing

The high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes were designed in Figma to test four scenarios.

Participants

Six participants were part of the testing stage from which notes were organized under an affinity map

Testing Scenario 1

You created your account but didn’t select the topics that you are interested in learning about. You want to select the learning topics that are most interesting to you.

Testing Scenario 2

You have enjoyed cooking new recipes for the last couple of weeks and would like to search for a vegetarian spaghetti recipe. You’ll like to find recipes that don't exceed 40 minutes total (prep + cooking time).

Testing Scenario 3

You recently have signup for Arise and committed to cooking a new recipe per week which uses a seasonal ingredient. Using Arise, find the meal recommendation for the day, review the recipe, and create a grocery list.

Testing Scenario 4

You went to the grocery store yesterday and bought the ingredients for Mushroom Garlic Spaghetti. Today you are ready to cook! Using the app, find the recipe to review the cooking steps.

Iterations

Iteration 1:

Participants executed most of the tasks without issues but felt that the Home Screen needed more details.

“My Weekly progress & My Commitements are not easy to understand and lack clarity”

Iteration 2:

85% of the participants mentioned their interest in learning more about their progress and contribution to the planet.

“I would like to know what I have done to contribute to the planet. See my contributions under Planet”

Navigation Bar Evolution

Iteration 3:

Most participants navigated the product easily but adding the planet section demanded some IA adjustments.

“I think that the app is clean and clear, intuitive to navigate from one section to the other”

iOS Human Interface Guidelines

Iteration 4:

71% of the participants didn’t see or understand that the “cook mode” button provided the cooking instructions.

“The logic on the Grocery List was unclear, when I check something is because I have it”

Iteration 5:

57% of participants asked questions or needed some extra time to grasp the logic to create the grocery list.

“I think that the app is clean and clear, intuitive to navigate from one section to the other”
